Nearly 50 percent of human communications are through body language while in animals this percentage seems to be even much higher. An important attribute of body language is that it is intuitive and need not be learned except through day-to-day experiences. Even a new-born baby understands the expression of love by his/her elders without any training or experience.
Most often used organs in body language are head, eyes, lips, face, hands, arms, shoulders, toes, etc. each of which is an optimum tool for representing some specific type of communication. To make the communication more powerful, more than one organs are used for expressions. Here is the list -
Organ Communication
Head : Yes, No
Eyes : Attraction, Flirt, Anger, Contemplation
Lips : Love, Desire
Face : Happiness, Love, Hate, Anger
Hands : Call, Victory, Alert
Touch : Love, Affection
Arms : Stop, Alert
Shoulders : I don't know
Toes : Revenge
Communicating yes or no through shaking of head is often used by humans but its practice is not the same at all places. At some, shaking head sideways often indicates a 'no' but at some places, it is indicative of a 'yes'. Similarly, shaking head vertically is often used for a 'yes' but not at all places.
The most sensitive and instinctive feeling in all creatures is that of loving and being loved. Attraction is the first step of love for which there is no tool better and faster than the eyes for communicating it.
Apart from these inter-personal communication signals, body language also indicates general tendencies of a person. Keep on moving body parts while sitting without any apparent reason indicates restlessness of the person's mind, and particularly in women, it indicates desire for getting noticed.
Lips are often used to communicate a desire for physical love. Pressing the lower lip in between one's teeth indicates that the person is eager for an physical intimacy. Facial expressions also make use of lips to express happiness, anguish, love, affection etc.
Hands and arms are often used for calling somebody at a distance, and raising an alert not only against dangers but also of joys. Shrugging the shoulders along with facial expressions is a standard expression of amazement.
