Time, Space and Power Management

Every individual is a part of Nature, hence natural laws are applicable on him/her. So to find out how to manage oneself optimally, we can take inspiration from the Nature. The Nature has 3 fundamental elements - time, space and energy and manages itself through management of these three elements in consonance. So human management is also management of time, space and power. The most wonderful of all these three elements is that these are cyclic ie end in one direction is the beginning in the other direction. This makes the management a convenient cyclic activity.

Management of Time

Basic thing about time management is listing the jobs to be done, allotting relative priorities to them and then pursuing them one at a time. Since jobs are of various types, their priorities are set accordingly giving the topmost priority to the job which is directly linked to your goal of life, or its prerequisites.

Persons often do easier things first leaving the harder for a later execution. This way is that of an escapist and is not recommended. If you have to do a job, you are to face its complications sooner or later, so why to avoid it and keep it pending. Remember, accomplishing a difficult job makes you more self-confident making easier jobs much easier to do.

Another categorization of jobs is on the basis of their impacts - having long-term impacts and having shorter-term impacts. Often short-term impact jobs find priority, so much so that long-term impact jobs get ignored. This is dangerous for the overall meeting the objectives of life. Since, many short-term impact jobs are unavoidable, these must be sandwiched with the long-term impact jobs in the priority setting.

Priority setting also needs periodic reviews and updates which need be done at the beginning of, say, a day, a week, a month and/or a year.

Management of Space

Organization of a work place cuts wastage of time adding efficiency to performance and most importantly adds pleasure to working. Although management of space may not be an objective of life and so may be accorded a lower priority, but it must be remembered that management of space is a prerequisite of management of time and hence deserves topmost priority. Once, it is tactically accomplished, its further management becomes automatic and even unnoticeably easier. It becomes a matter of habit and performed sub-consciously.

Management of Power

The Universe and every individual has a limited amount of power always getting converted from one form to another, therefore need tactical management. The most important tip on power management for an individual is that he/she should never be exhausted of it. For this, one’s power must be replenished at regular intervals through rest and nutrition. Without this one may feel stressed and become less efficient in performance.

Notice here, I have not used the term ‘energy’ as is often considered basic, for the simple logic of energy being accumulated power over a time, therefore is composed of two elements - power and time, and hence is not fundamental.

The last and the most important aspect of managing the self is that all these three - time, space and power managements should not be treated in isolation with each other but as components of a composite self-management.
