All our contacts and business houses all around us are trying to make us act in their interests but keep on telling us that they are looking at our interests. Very often, we get swayed by these persuades and allurements. Conversely, we remain safe if we keep away from these allurements. This requires us to have some self-control which proves to be a key to self-improvement and this requires us to resist temptations.
A temptation is always for a small gain but has a hidden loss of a big gain later. Therefore, resisting a temptation or delaying our action on a temptation pays - a gain from the self-control. Another great gain from self-control is a sense of disciplining the self. The delay in acting on a temptation provides us a time for thinking, and a habit of thinking before acting always pays affecting our socioeconomic status and IQ. Gains in health, wealth and public image are additional gains of self-control.
Self-control may be inherited but it may be learned through experiences and exposures. For children, the best way of avoiding action on a temptation is to distract their attention to something more interesting. For adults, distraction of attention may work but the better way is self-restrain through a resolution and cultivate it as a habit - a permanent personality trait.
